Acupuncture Treatments for Stress & Anxiety

Stress & Anxiety Treatments

Two of the most common conditions that we see within the clinic. Anxiety alone affects 1 in 6 adults in the UK and it is often accompanied by high stress levels.

There can be almost an almost infinite amount of symptoms from poor concentration, sweating, nausea, dry mouth, palpitations, muscle tension and these can also lead to other physical conditions which are triggered by stress such as irritable bowel syndrome, migraines and headaches. Conventional treatment consists of using cognitive behavioural therapy and antidepressants.

How can acupuncture help?

Acupuncturists have been treating stress, anxiety and other mental disorders for over 2000 years. By acting on areas of the brain that reduce sensitivity to pain and stress, alongside promoting relaxation and deactivating the ‘analytical’ brain. It also stimulates the production of our body’s natural endogenous opioids that affect the nervous system and take us out of the state of ‘fight or flight’ that we are so often found in. It regulates several hormones in our brain such as dopamine and serotonin allowing us to feel more relaxed, less anxious and allows our body to heal and helps reverse stress-induced changes in both our behaviour and biochemistry.
