Sports Injury Treatment
Sports injuries go from a minor injury of a bruised toe all the way to serious damage such as broken bones. It can include sprains, strains and bruising. More often than not they’re in the lower body and tend to be soft tissue rather than bone. Typically they tend to cause pain, discomfort, reduced range of movement as well as swelling.
The aim of therapy is to reduce the pain, re-establish a full range of motion, speed up the healing process and restore full function. We can use a range of treatment options such as acupuncture, massage, cupping, gua sha, electroacupuncture and moxibustion to help achieve this. In some cases electro acupuncture has been found to be more effective than medication in both short and long term in cases with lower back strain (Yao-Chi, 2007)
Many famous sports people such as the Chinese Olympic teams, basket players in the NBA and professional swimmers have all used Chinese medicine therapies to help them perform, and recover and allow them to compete at such high levels even after placing such high stresses upon their bodies.
As of the 7th of April 2021, the National institute of care and excellence (NICE guidelines) now recommend acupuncture as a solution to both primary and secondary chronic pain. So you can feel confident in the effectiveness of this treatment option.
