There are many disorders affecting menstrual cycles such as Dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome just to name a few. At least one of these will affect around 50% adult women and up to 75% of adolescents.

Taking Dysmenorrhoea as an example, it is often treated using NSAIDs or the oral contraceptive pill which although may mask the symptoms but not treat it’s cause.

Acupuncture can help by regulating neuroendocrine activities, increasing nitric oxide levels relaxing the smooth muscles and hence inhibiting uterine contractions. Increase relaxation and reducing tension which can help combat the negative affective states. It stimulates the local nerves, muscles and other tissues, releases endorphins and other hormones balancing out pain levels.
